synopsis

1408 primarily follows the cynical and skeptical writer, Mike Enslin who writes books reviewing supernatural occurrences in haunted places such as hotels and graveyards, often debunking the mysteries surrounding them. He travels from Los Angeles to New York and spends a night in room 1408, a room that is permanently closed off to the public at the Dolphin Hotel. Manager Mr. Gerald Olin reluctantly opposes his request and offers upgrades, and expensive alcohol, and recounts how over fifty guests have died in the cursed room over many decades. However, Mike threatens Mr. Olin, promising to sue the hotel, and is eventually allowed to stay in the room. Late night, he discovers that once a guest checks into room 1408, they may never leave the room alive.
