Watch American Buffalo
(1996)American Buffalo primarily tells the story of Don Dubro, owner of a dusty, dimly lit junk shop in the downtown area where he and his friends hold court, possibly planning their ascent to the top each day. He does so more out of habit than hope, having long ago entrusted his future to a life of repetition as a guardian to the discarded property of others. In contrast, the disheveled Teach is either too stupid or too stubborn to accept the destiny that life has brought him; instead, he runs like a wild horse, refusing to be broken. The most pitiful of the trio in the film is Bobby, a teenager who mistakes much of the conversation between his elders for pearls of wisdom and the only one among the trio who still has a chance of making a living somewhere beyond this exhausted, too-familiar community.
