What to Know
Candyman is a 2021 supernatural horror film directed by Nia DaCosta and written by the Oscar-winner Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, and DaCosta. Candyman is the sequel to the 1992 film of the same time and the fourth movie in this series collection. Based on Clive Barker's short novel The Forbidden, this film stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett.
The film's character is a visual artist named Anthony McCoy, who is a middle-class in Chicago. There is a local urban legend called Candy Man, and he is a cruel killer with hooks in his hands. To make it all clear, Anthony embarks on an adventure journey to explore the dark sides of the puzzles surrounding him. As he explores more, he awakens the Candyman's resentment by accident and gets trapped in a big trouble of violence and terror.
Candy Man discusses the themes of race and social class. It centers on the legacy of racial violence and trauma, exploring how the tale of the Candy Man is passed down from generation to generation. With its intense performances, atmosphere, and thought-provoking narrative, the film not only provides the audience with an appalling horror experience but also pays homage to the original while providing a new story.
