synopsis

Daybreakers mainly tells the story of a world where vampires make up the vast majority of the population, with only 5% of humans remaining. This leads to a unique challenge, as the vampire's food supply - human blood - is dwindling, and rationing has become the norm. Increasing evidence suggests that vampires lacking sufficient blood supply are evolving into savage, evil creatures that will attack anything and anyone to survive. Edward Dalton, a vampire, and hematologist, works at a pharmaceutical company and is determined to find a synthetic blood supply that can meet the needs of vampire society. He sympathizes with humans and sees his work as a way to alleviate their suffering, but when he encounters a way to transform himself from a vampire into a human, his perspective on finding a solution changes drastically.
