What to Know

Downtown Abby A New Era is a 2022 England and American historical film directed by Simon Curtis and written by Julian Fellowes, who is also the screenwriter of the highly acclaimed TV series Downton Abbey. Downtown Abby A New Era is the sequel to the 2019 movie Downtown Abby. All beloved cast return to the big screen with its second movie and embark on a captivating and dramatic journey in France.

Downtown Abby A New Era tells that Dowager Countess has inherited a villa; therefore, nearly half of the Crawley family head to the south of France and across the Channel to inspect it. In that estate, a series of ups and downs occur, making their summer getaway journey riskier and more challenging. The Downton Abbey staff and the masters in this grand estate manage to turn a silent movie into a sound film by dubbing, temporarily standing by.

Except for the principal cast, new casts such as Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, and Nathalie Baye also participate in the second film of Downtown Abby. Due to COVID-19, the release date of Downton Abbey: A New Era was shifted from December 22, 2021, to March 18, 2022. Although it didn't gross more at the box office than the first film, it still earned over $92.7 million worldwide.
