What to Know

The Fan is an Indian action film released in 2016 and directed by Maneesh Sharma, who co-wrote the screenplay with Habib Faisal and Sharat Katariya. It is presented in Hindi and features well-known Indian movie stars Shah Rukh Khan, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and Sayani Gupta. As Shah Rukh Khan's first work released in 2016, he played dual roles in this movie and delivered an excellent performance, which was widely acclaimed after its premiere.

The story follows a popular movie star and an obsessive fan of his, and they have similar faces but different fates. After his idol rejects and ignores his love and affection, the fierce fan is determined to take revenge by destroying the star's reputation and life. To pursue an elaborate production, The Fan gets long preparation and filming period, and it was filmed in Mumbai, Delhi, Dubrovnik, and London. One exciting piece of news is that Fan is the first movie to be filmed inside the Madame Tussauds Museum in London, and Khan's statue was also temporarily moved to London for the filming.

As Khan is also a popular celebrity in real life, some scenes in this movie are based on video footage of Khan and his fans. For instance, in one scene, fans gather around Shah Rukh Khan's house on his birthday, and the actor waves to them from his balcony. This real footage is from Khan's birthdays in 2014 and 2015. Additionally, this movie features complex post-production visual effects, masterful makeup, and prosthetics, which sets Khan apart from the other characters and better serves the dual roles story.
