synopsis

This film tells the story of the United States and Japan in the Battle of Iwo Jima at the turning point of the Second World War. In order to bring hope to the soldiers, the Fifth Division of the United States Army received the order to place flags. Navy soldier John Bradley (Ryan Philippe), his comrade in arms Ira Hayes (Adam Beech), Rene Ganon (Jesse Bradford), and three other comrades in arms rushed to Sulibanch Peak, the commanding point of Iwo Jima, and the six of them joined forces to insert an American flag. Joe Rosenthal, a war correspondent for the Associated Press, took a picture of six soldiers holding the flag bravely and sent the picture back to China. The picture was sent to New York 18 hours later, which greatly encouraged the morale of American soldiers and ultimately played a key role in winning the whole war. Since then, these six soldiers have become national heroes. But three of their six heroes died before they even knew they were heroes. The remaining three people who survived were not interested in being regarded as national heroes, nor did they think they were heroes. They only wanted to stay with those brothers who did not enjoy any glory and died bravely in the war. They hoped that the terrible war would never happen again.
