Watch For Whom the Bell Tolls
(1943)The backdrop of For Whom the Bell Tolls is the Spanish Civil War of 1937. Like Bethune, Robert, a university teacher from the United States, went to Spain to help the local people fight against fascism. After he completes the task of blowing up the train, he is assigned a new task: to join forces with the spontaneous formation of guerrillas to blow up the iron bridge over the canyon. He met and fell in love with the beautiful Maria. Maria is the daughter of the mayor, but the fascists killed her parents, and Maria was insulted. Catalyzed by their shared ideals, they fall in love, but Rob is killed in the battle.
