synopsis

Heavyweights tells that Gerry Garner, an 11-year-old boy from Long Island, New York, is overweight, and his parents decide to send him to Camp Hope, a summer camp specifically for overweight boys. The camp is owned by the kind Harvey Bushkin and his wife, Alice, but when they file for bankruptcy, it is sold to a crazy man named Tony Perkis. Perkis plans to force the campers to lose weight and use their weight-loss journey for his own infomercial. The campers are miserable under Perkis' strict regime, and Gerry and counselor Pat Finley lead the efforts to overthrow him. Meanwhile, the campers prepare for the Apache Relay, a race they have never won against their arch-rivals, Camp MVP.
