In the Dark is a 2015 American horror film directed and written by Chris St. Croix and David Buchert. Both of them are thriller manics, and David Buchert is known for his horror series named Night Terrors from 2011. In the Dark Stars, Scott Aaker, Andria Armstrong, and Shannon Beals, who also cooperated with David in Night Terrors before, contributed memorable performances to this independent thriller film, respectively.
This film follows a fast-paced narrative and delivers a twisted tale around two pistol-toting sisters, a masked maniac with an axe-wielding in his hands, a murderous matchmaker, and a sin-slaying monster from hell; they all gather together in the dark; the movie is filled with a modern creepy vibe.
In the Dark was shot in the director’s home state of Tennessee, but the massive and elaborate production looks like a Hollywood work. Buchert tells more details about the film in an interview; he attempts to make an early 1980s De Palma kind of John Carpenter film, so there is not a lot of gore in the movie. But there is still a guy with a mask chasing a girl around. It’s more of a thriller than a gory. Three stories and a wrap are included in this film, containing action and horror, dark, twisted comedy, and thriller elements.
