What to Know
Legally Blonde is an American romantic comedy directed by Robert Luketic and released in 2001. The script is written by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith and inspired by Amanda Brown's 2001 novel. Starring Reese Witherspoon, Luke Wilson, and Selma Blair, the film centers on a blonde schoolgirl determined to get admitted into Harvard Law School and win back her boyfriend. During the journey, she successfully becomes a qualified lawyer and overcomes stereotypes against blondes utilizing her perseverance.
The whole story is loosely based on Amanda Brown's real experience at Harvard Law School, and she confronts prejudice because she is a fashion and beauty lover. Then, the producer helps Amanda adapt her script into a novel, which develops into a movie. Robert Luketic doesn’t find a good screenplay until he finishes reading this novel. After the success of this film, a sequel called Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde premieres in 2003, and Legally Blonde: The Musical hit Broadway successfully in 2007.
Legally Blonde is delightful and inspiring to watch because it not only presents humor and heartfelt moments but also delivers a powerful message about embracing individuality and challenging social stereotypes. It is a celebration of personal growth, persistence, and bravery. There is a theme throughout the movie: Everyone can make dreams come true if they have faith in themselves.
