Watch Lilies
(1996)In 1952, Bishop Bilodeau travels to a Quebec prison to listen to the confession of a childhood friend who has been incarcerated for murder for the past 40 years. The prisoners force the bishop to witness a play that reenacts what truly occurred in 1912. The audience is introduced to Bilodeau as a young man with strict morals, determined to convince Simon (now a convicted murderer) to join the seminary with him. Simon is torn between his affection for Vallier, the son of a struggling and quirky countess, and his fear of his father's anger after kissing Vallier during a rehearsal. In a desperate attempt to escape the situation, Simon proposes to a Parisian visitor. However, Vallier, urged by his mother, attends the engagement party to publicly declare his love for Simon. What actions will the observant Bishop Bilodeau take in this dramatic situation?
