Watch Matinee
(1993)Matinee tells that in 1962, Gene Loomis and his younger brother, Dennis, reside on a military base in Key West, Florida, with their mother while their father is on a Navy submarine. They come across a preview for Mant!, a new horror film produced by Lawrence Woolsey, and Woolsey is set to appear at the theater for its premiere. The family watches President Kennedy's speech about Soviet missiles in Cuba while Woolsey arrives in Florida with his girlfriend and two actors to stage protests against Mant! and generate publicity. Jack and Rhonda advocate for free speech, while Gene recognizes one of Woolsey's actors from a previous film. Gene befriends a classmate named Stan and becomes infatuated with Sandra, Jack, and Rhonda's daughter. Woolsey hires Harvey to dress as the monster from Mant! and introduces a new gimmick, "Rumble-Rama," which shakes the theater seats. During the premiere, Harvey attacks Stan and punches Woolsey before taking the movie's profits and kidnapping Sherry. Woolsey and Gene create an illusion of a nuclear explosion to evacuate the theater, and Woolsey and his girlfriend leave for Cleveland while Gene's father returns home.
