Watch Milk
(2008)The film flashes back from a statement Harvey Milk made late in life, using archival footage to set the mood and trace his career from his 40th birthday until his death. He left the closet, left New York, opened a camera shop, became a salon for San Francisco's growing gay community, and organized gay purchasing power to build political coalitions. His lover Scott Smith served as his campaign manager. Victory finally came on the same day that Dan White won in the city's conservative precinct. The rest of the film depicts Milk's relationship with White and the 1978 initiative to fight a statewide ban on gays and their supporters working in public schools.
