Watch Moulin Rouge
(1952)The story of the life of French artist Toulouse Lautrec, who is well-known for his career immortalized on canvas in the Paris ballroom, the Moulin Rouge figure. Born into an aristocratic family, Toulouse-Lautrec moved to Paris to pursue his art, hanging out at the Moulin Rouge, where he felt he fit in among the other misfits. His maladjustment was due to his small stature, his broken legs, which had stopped growing after falling down stairs in childhood. Because of his looks, he thought he was destined never to experience true love from a woman. His life changed when he met two women. The first is the prostitute Mary Charlette, whom he rescues from imprisonment in the style of a white knight. Their relationship eventually became turbulent. In more indirect acts, Toulouse-Lautrec would also eventually become her saviour, and one of those indirect acts was his painting, a painting she had purchased, whose subject made her reflect on what she saw as the troubles in her own life.
