Watch Oliver Twist
(1948)Oliver Twist tells that Orphan Oliver was raised by the church and sent to a workhouse at the age of 9 to pick oakum. Later, he was sold to a coffin maker as an apprentice and suffered repeated abuse. Oliver eventually fled the coffin shop and walked 70 miles to London, where he met the Artful Dodger, a young thief, and was taken in by the Jewish older man Fagin's gang of thieves. On his first mission, Oliver was falsely accused of stealing Mr. Brownlow's handkerchief and was beaten unconscious. Good-hearted Mr. Brownlow took him home to adopt him, but on an errand for Mr. Brownlow, Oliver was captured by Fagin's accomplice Bill Sikes. Sikes forced Oliver to help him and his accomplice, Toby, to break into Mr. Brownlow's house at night. The young Oliver refused, and his life was in danger.
