Watch Side by Side
(2012)Side by Side tells that after centuries of development, film technology has evolved from its primitive beginnings to a mature state. Filmmakers have utilized the art of chemical photography to create countless classics and visual wonders. However, as we approached the 21st century, the limitations of chemical photography became apparent, struggling to meet the demands of the film industry for new technologies, innovative shooting techniques, and fresh concepts. Concurrently, digital photography began to rise, entering the traditional film domain with unprecedented momentum. From the use of handheld DV cameras in the Dogma 95 movement to George Lucas boldly embracing HD cinematography, the emergence of digital photography sparked political debates between the "traditionalists" and the "innovators." Gradually, digital photography encroached upon the territory once dominated by traditional film and became mainstream in today's film industry. Throughout this process, aspects such as lighting, cinematography, and editing have also been influenced and impacted. This is a new revolution, a hopeful glimpse into a future full of possibilities.
