What to Know
Teen Wolf is a 1985 American teen comedy film directed by Rod Daniel and written by Jeph Loeb and Matthew Weisman. Michael J. Fox stars in the leading role, and James Hampton, Scott Paulin, Susan Ursitti, Jerry Levine, Matt Adler, and Jay Tarses contribute in supporting roles. Scott Howard is a high school student with the supernatural ability to transform into a werewolf, and then his ordinary life is changed dramatically.
Teen Wolf was shot in 1984 and released by Atlantic Releasing Corporation on August 23, 1985. At that time, it was a great commercial success grossing over $30 million on a $4 million budget. After the hit, an animated series was adapted from the film in 1986, and the sequel movie to 1985, Teen Wolf, appeared in 1987. Set in the small town of Beacontown, Teen Wolf unfolds a wild and humorous adventure when Scott confronts the challenges of adolescence while dealing with his newfound supernatural abilities.
The film properly mixes comedy, romance, and teen themes with the narrative of Scott's growth story. It's a journey full of lessons about identity, true friendship, and honesty. It presented Michael J. Fox's charm and comedic talent when he was a promising new star in Hollywood, and other supporting roles also contributed to excellent performances, including Susan Ursitti as Scott's love interest, Boof, and Jerry Levine as his best friend, Stiles. In addition, the classic soundtrack called Surfin' USA by The Beach Boys catches the 1980s vibe well.
