Watch The Crucible
(1996)Arthur Miller wrote about a group of Salem, Massachusetts teen girls in 1692 who tried to use love potions to attract young men. They were forced to falsely claim Satan had entered them and name others involved. Greedy preachers and landowners add to the mix, along with one woman trying to get rid of a married man's wife. The subsequent trials resulted in the execution of the innocent, torture for those who refused to name others, and freedom for those who confessed. Miller's writing serves as a parable for the Communist witch hunts led by Senator Joe McCarthy in 1950s America.
