synopsis

The Getaway tells that Carter "Doc" McCoy, a seasoned thief, has been serving a 10-year sentence at the Texas State Penitentiary for the past four years. Despite being a model prisoner, his parole request is rejected. Emotionally drained and unable to cope with life inside, Doc implores his devoted wife, Carol McCoy, to reach out to Jack Beynon, a corrupt businessman with political connections, to arrange his release in exchange for his services. Beynon agrees to secure Doc's freedom by orchestrating a heist at a small bank branch in Beacon City, Texas, where $750,000 is stored in the vault for the next two weeks. However, instead of using his crew, Beynon assigns his men, Rudy and Frank, to assist Doc with the strict instruction that no one should be harmed. After successfully pulling off the heist, Doc and Carol plan to escape to Mexico with their share of the money. However, things don't go according to plan, and they find themselves on the run with various people in hot pursuit, some aware of their intention to cross the border. Along the way, the couple encounters Fran and Harold Clinton, an average couple who become intimately involved in their predicament. Amidst the chaos, Doc and Carol must also deal with personal issues from a revelation about the circumstances surrounding Doc's release from prison.
