Watch The Last Black Man in San Francisco
(2019)The Last Black Man in San Francisco tells that Jimmie Fails IV is a third-generation San Franciscan who has been pushed out of the city due to circumstances beyond his control. Even though he came back to the city three years ago, he works as a nurse in a seniors' care facility and earns a low wage. To make matters worse, he has to sleep on the cramped bedroom floor of his best friend Montgomery Allen. Mont also struggles, working at a supermarket fish counter while pursuing his passion for sketching and writing a play. The disenfranchisement of black people in San Francisco is evident through the soapbox preacher and a group of young black men who hang out outside Mont's house. Jimmie's family is also affected by this, with his estranged father living in an SRO, his mother and stepfather living in Los Angeles, and his Auntie Wanda forced out to the suburbs. Despite the challenges, Jimmie is determined to reclaim the house he grew up in, built by his paternal grandfather in a traditional style. However, the neighborhood has been gentrified, increasing the house's value to millions of dollars. It is currently occupied by a white couple who show no sign of leaving or selling. Jimmie and Mont are determined to reclaim the house, despite the odds stacked against them.
