synopsis

Set in the mid-nineteenth century, Ada is unable to speak and travels with her young daughter Flora and cherished piano to New Zealand's North Island for an arranged marriage to Stewart. Life in the rugged forest proves to be challenging, and she struggles with her relationship with Stewart. Adding insult to injury, Stewart sells her piano to their neighbor George, causing Ada immense anguish. Desperate to earn it back, Ada begrudgingly agrees to give George piano lessons under certain conditions. Despite her initial disdain for him, Ada and George's relationship transforms over time, leading them down a dangerous path.
