synopsis

In early winter 1982, a US research station in Antarctica is visited by a helicopter from a nearby Norwegian research station. The Norwegians are attempting to kill a dog that has escaped from their base, but after the US team destroys the helicopter, they discover that the Norwegian station is abandoned and all its members are dead or missing. Among the remains of a burned creature, the Americans deduce that it is an alien life form capable of assimilating into other organisms, including humans, and spreading like a virus. With anyone at the base potentially being inhabited by The Thing, tensions rise as paranoia and mistrust threaten to tear the team apart.
