synopsis

Roy 'Tin Cup' McAvoy, a former professional golfer dwelling in a dilapidated driving range in the small town of Salome, Texas, finds himself in a bind when he transfers ownership of the establishment to a showgirl madam to settle his debts. Enter Dr. Molly Griswold, an attractive psychologist and aspiring golfer who happens to be dating Roy's old college golf partner, David Simms. When Simms challenges Roy to a bet, the irresistible temptation leads Roy to gamble away his car. Determined to win Molly's admiration, Roy decides to become her patient and sets his sights on qualifying for the prestigious US Open. As Roy's natural talent shines through, his recklessness and showmanship begin to hinder his scores, while Simms, despite his contemptuous attitude, consistently excels.
