synopsis

The movie Wig tells that for almost 20 years, Wigstock, an annual drag event, has lovingly signaled the end of the summer for the LGBT community in New York City. One late night in 1984, Lady Bunny and a few companions made their way inebriated from the East Village's Pyramid Club to Tompkins Square Park, where they put on a spontaneous drag show on the band stage. This quickly became a drag spectacular that was held every year until 2001. Lady Bunny has brought it back at this time. The festival made a comeback this summer, bringing together some new drag kids and some classic queens for one of the largest drag shows in history. This film examines the art of drag, focusing on the New York institution Wigstock and showcasing the figures and performances that have influenced it.
