synopsis
David Tennant serves as the ninth Doctor for the first time in this season. He keeps on traveling with Rose Tyler, with whom he has become more and more connected. Rose's lover, Mickey Smith, joins them for a brief trip, and Rose's mother, Jackie, is once again played by Camille Coduri. The repeating phrase "Torchwood" serves as a loose narrative thread that ties the many series together. This is also the first time a Christmas special has been shown before a series to gauge how well the program will do throughout the holiday season. The Christmas special became a yearly tradition as a result of the popularity of "The Christmas Invasion."
