synopsis
In 1995, 11-year-old hip-hop enthusiast Eddie Huang had just moved with his family from Washington, D.C.'s Chinatown to the Orlando suburbs. They quickly learn that the way things are done there is quite different, and Orlando doesn't even have a Chinatown. The family put a lot of effort into blending into the community. Jessica is concerned that her family has lost their Chinese identity as a result of their extensive assimilation into Orlando culture. As a result, she frantically tries to get everyone to reconnect with their culture. She adamantly opposes Louis joining the country club, and she forces Eddie to do a story on China for his World Day project.
