synopsis

In 2012, Louisiana State Police Detectives Rust Cohle and Martin Hart are called back to reexamine a murder case they had worked on. Through separate interrogations, the two detectives recount their original investigation, uncovering unresolved issues and raising doubts about their previous conclusion regarding a disturbing ritualistic killing. As the timelines intertwine and intersect in 2012, both men find themselves drawn back into a world they thought they had escaped. As they delve deeper into the case and each other's lives, they discover that darkness exists on both sides of the law.
